behaviors; and stops patterns which

truly wants, and how to use
solution-oriented strategies to build on
both known and unrecognized personal
strengths to lead a more fulfilling and
balanced life.
Workshop II: Moving Past the Past:
Getting What You Really Want, Aligning
Thought with Action

behaviors in your life? What is it that
you really want? Learn how
to identify what it is you really want
from deep within, and learn how to move
past obstacles that get in the way of what

Workshop: “Return to thy Self:
Reclaiming who we were always meant to
be.”
When trauma occurs it
is an invasion of all aspects of our self,
leaving our core vulnerable and exposed. In
an attempt to preserve the essence of our
being, we have no choice but to lock away
our core self. Disconnected from our
emotional, cognitive and spiritual selves,
we may feel as if we are merely a
“shell” of who we used to be. This one
hour seminar will introduce participants to
the impact and legacy of trauma on the self
and the use of our own inner wisdom for
healing and creativity.
Jeffrey
Cotton, MS, IMT, IMH, Ph D Candidate
is
a dynamic leader and inspirational speaker
who has motivated countless teens, couples,
families, and individuals to first recognize
the process of what is working one’s life
and then how to expand on and maximize
one’s abilities to achieve desired goals.
Enhancing one’s abilities can create more
opportunities in life and usually begins
with the process of making one small change;
however, small change is not easy and
requires hard work. Cotton is an expert in
Solution-Focused (SF) practices (coaching,
consultation, education, & therapy) and
has presented internationally on several
occasions. These international presentations
include topics regarding how to enhance
relationships through SF thinking, behaving,
and communicating. He is currently
conducting innovative microanalysis research
on solution-focused communication patterns
and has developed a strong interest in how
communication works in motivating people to
manage or solve difficult problems (both
acute and chronic).
Cotton
received his Master’s Degree in 1998 from
Troy State University Montgomery in
Counseling & Human Development. He then
accepted a position as the Assistant
Director of the Autauga County Teen Court
and Peers Are Staying Straight program in
Prattville, Alabama. He subsequently
re-located to Fort Lauderdale to pursue a
PhD in Family therapy at Nova Southeastern
University. While
pursuing his post-graduate degree at NSU,
Cotton concurrently maximized his leadership
position as the Director of Treatment at
Florida Ocean Sciences Institute (F.O.S.I.)
and provided group, individual, and family
therapy services for delinquent youth in a
level 2 program. During his four-year tenure
at F.O.S.I., he developed a successful
internship program, in partnership with NSU,
and trained graduate students in
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy practices.
Additionally, he implemented the Working on
What Works Program in juvenile settings and
has presented on this approach in Amsterdam,
Holland.
More
recently, Cotton is a primary therapist of a
a popular behavioral health group at the
intensive-outpatient program (IOP) at
Hollywood Pavilion. He is a frequently
sought after presenter, and most recently
presented a workshop in Aruba at the first
Solution-Focused World Conference on how to
utilize SF practices in group settings with
long-term patients.
During
the evenings, Mr. Cotton works under
licensed supervision and provides therapy
for youth, couples, and families, as well as
individuals, in a successful private
practice setting located at the Center for
Counseling & Development in Plantation,
Florida. Mr. Cotton is currently dual
registered both as an intern in Marriage and
Family Therapy (IMT) and Mental Health
